Hi all, a little (long overdue) update on voting and advertising!
I've managed to find a gap in my work schedule, and I'm please to announce that we've officially re-established ourselves in the advertising networks and websites, so now it's up for you guys to keep voting and get us to the top of the leaderboards. The more you vote, the more players we'll get. At the moment voting rewards are not working (Should be fixed by monday), but voting is still very valuable for gaining players.
Also, something that was brought up in a thread today that I really have to note here, is that if you want more players, you also need to be active in the community. People don't like playing on an empty server, but if there's a small playerbase of only one-two people, a new player will be substantially more inclined to play for longer, and that creates a chain reaction. So try be on the server as much as you can, and we should gain a decent amount of players provided you guys continue to vote daily.
Thanks, and enjoy the rest of your day!

Hi Guys, It is with great pride that I can announce we've completed Hydrocity 2.0, our SMP server.
It took us a while due to a long list of technical issues and host changes, not to mention the fact that all of us are busy with IRL matters, those being school, college or university.
- Removed hub, reverted back to "Classic" HyG, just the one server, simple and fast.
- Changed from factions to SMP, we had issues with factions, and SMP is more noob friendly. Not all of you will be happy but this is not a permanent change.
+ New, high speed servers, ensure lag-free gameplay from basically anywhere (I'm connecting from australia and my ping to HyG is 190ms)
+ New spawn, many thanks to Giggatygoo and Snowie for helping out with a lot of the building.
+ New Admin: Snowie - Will help out with managing the server as well as working on a TF2 server.
SMP? What the heck? Why?!
The decision to change from Factions to SMP was not an easy one, because HyG has predominantly been a Factions server. The decision to change was made for a multitude of reasons, but I'll cover the main points. Quite simply, Factions isn't good for us right now, because you can't properly have a factions server when there's nobody to raid. It's just not fun. SMP is noob friendly, easier to manage (Factions gave us a LOT of grief (no pun intended), but don't worry, we saved all your faction data, and we will use that again at some point) and is personally better for the average Minecraft player, who enjoys making a big base and mining, but also has the option for some awesome PVP on the side. We talked about changing from factions to SMP for a bit, and I will admit the idea didn't make me happy, but in the end, the positives of SMP outweighed the positives of factions and thus we decided to change. This will likely not be a permanent change, but a temporary one until we have a good player base.
The server is premium
Yes, as you may well know, we changed the server from cracked to premium. This was a VERY hard decision to make because we were well aware how many of you don't own a premium Minecraft account. At the end of the day, it comes down to security. We discovered some major security flaws back when we had the hub and were using cracked accounts. We don't yet know if these issues will apply to just this single SMP server, but cracked brings with it a lot of challenges such as ban evasion, bot attacks and general misuse of cracked minecraft. We don't know yet whether this will be premium, I'm yet to talk to the other admins about it. Ideally we'd be cracked, but account security is a serious thing and we can't risk having accounts 'Hijacked' by other players just because a few of you can't afford premium/cannot get it for whatever reason. it sucks, and I promise we'll try and find a way to get you guys on, but for now, we're going to have to be premium, sorry .
A lot of the changes are quite major, but SMP is a reliable way of gaining a playerbase, as new players find it easier, and people will be more inclined to play knowing their items are safe. I reinforce my statement that this is NOT a permanent thing, but for now to gain a player base we've decided to stick with SMP.
Thanks for sticking around with us as we went through a difficult time in terms of the server, but we hope this will gain players and we can restore HyG to what it was back in 2011-2012. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments and I will answer them.
I'd also like to thank Snowie, Dan, Pollo and all the other people that helped work on this.
